IAH Liaison with UN Activities (LUNA) – working group meeting to confirm participants and establish a medium term programme

IAH Groundwater Quality Commission meeting 2024: The challenge of protecting groundwater resources from contamination and understanding the risks from polluted groundwater supplies affects us all. We are calling on all those with an interest in groundwater quality to come and hear about the ongoing activities of this commission and join in the discussion. Those currently involved in other commissions are particularly welcome as we would like to seek ways to work together with other commissions on this topic. If you are passionate about an particular issue and want take this forward please come and share this with the active members of the commission, it it a very board topic area covering legacy contaminants, contaminants of health concern and emerging threats to groundwater quality. We have a number of initiatives that are being launched in the coming year and would like to share these with you and seek wider participation from the IAH community and beyond. IAH Education and Outreach Working Group – to encourage participants to support IAH’s E&O initiatives and establish a medium term programme

All RGFC supporters and all interested participants of the congress are welcome to attend the meeting. After a short introduction to the operation and activity of the Commission we plan to discuss the potential fields to be involved in the Commission. 

In this inaugural IAH session dedicated to Latin America and the Caribbean, we will come together to get to know each other, share experiences, and establish a collaborative work plan. This meeting will provide a platform for hydrogeologists in the region to strengthen professional networks, exchange ideas, and discuss common challenges in groundwater management. Through roundtable discussions and open forums, we will work together to identify priorities, foster cooperation, and develop joint strategies to promote the sustainability and protection of groundwater resources in our region.

Please join us for an informational meeting on the recently launched GEWEX Global groundwater network. Our Network seeks to identifying approaches to fill the conceptual, theoretical, technical, and observational gaps in hydrogeologic and groundwater flow modeling from the local and regional to the global scale in Earth Systems Models. We seek to connect scientists from the hydrogeologic and groundwater flow modeling communities with land surface and ESM communities to formulate a concrete, multi-year science and research agenda. At this meeting we will provide a brief summary of the current status of the network, as well as next steps and ways to get involved, and welcome a community discussion. All are welcome!

Our Annual General Meeting, held during the congress, will provide current and prospective Early Career Hydrologists’ Network (ECHN) members with information about the ECHN and how to get more involved. All early career scientists are welcome!

Coastal Aquifers Dynamics and Coastal Zone Management Network” aims to promote the exchange of ideas and proposals among all hydrogeologists interested in the study and management of coastal aquifers and coastal zones, not only in relation to the salinisation risks that are typical of these hydrogeological contexts. One of the aims of the meeting is to promote the network from an organisational point of view, therefore not only members of the network are invited.

IAH National Chapters – this is an opportunity for representatives and members of IAH’s national chapters to meet and share experiences for running a successful chapter
